Yaya's work explores the complex narratives surrounding Black womanhood, focusing on themes of nature, nurture, femininity, sexuality, and sexual violence. Through a multi-disciplinary approach—combining photography, video, painting, sculpture, poetry, and performance—they address both personal and collective experiences. Each medium serves as a tool to examine the intersections of beauty, trauma, and resilience, offering space for reflection on the physical and emotional dimensions of these themes. By reclaiming space for often-silenced narratives, their work seeks to provoke dialogue and foster understanding about the complexities of identity, power, and healing.
